His sculptural practice explores the physical challenges associated with Huntington’s disease, inspired by more than fifteen years of observing the illness within his own family. Combining everyday objects with 3D pen interventions and, more recently, plaster, his works transform familiar items into dysfunctional forms. A recurring contrast between a clean white section and a vivid orange element symbolizes the tension between a healthy object and the disease that progressively disrupts its use.
His photographic work focuses on memory loss, confusion, and altered perception. Through layered photo collages, he combines fragments of places, people, and moments from different periods of his life, creating visual metaphors for the fragmented nature of memory. Superposition, abstraction, and burnt elements evoke the gaps, distortions, and transformations that occur within the mind.
Alongside his studio practice, Yannick Tossing occasionally creates murals inspired by his photographic collages. Combining photography, collage, and urban art influences, these site-specific works use layered imagery, silhouettes, and local references to explore themes of memory, identity, and place within the public space.
